5 Things To Have When Starting A Home Business

Description:

Learn the 5 keys to success you should follow when starting a home based business.

Content:

When I see people starting a home business I always seem to find them jumping into things to quick, and not taking the time to think about things before they start off. This happens so often to people that is just blows my mind away. Why people would do such a thing?

When you first start any type of new business you should first take one step backwards, and slow down and re think exactly what you are getting into, and what you expect to get out of it. Sure anyone can start up a home business and other things, but only a handful will become successful with it.

So which one would you like to be? Its your choice to make, but only those that follow five steps will have a better chance at becoming the successful one. Before you start any home based business there are five key things you should first look over and think about before you venture out into the unknown.

One

You will first want to do research, and learn as much as you can about the business you are about to get involved with. Learning about the business, and educating your self will only help you in the long run, and greatly increase your chances of success with the business your in.

Two

You will then need to setup a business plan. A business plan is very important, and you will want to make sure you follow it each step of the way. This business plan will be your blueprint as to what you will do, and when you will do it. Without a good business plan you can become easily lost and find it hard to stay on track.

Three

You will want to setup a budget. Each and ever business has a budget that they follow. So why shouldnt yours? This budget will allow you to spend money where you need to spend it, and it will help make sure you dont waste money you dont have to waste.

Four

Setting goals should play a big role in your business. Each month you should set goals for you and your new business. These goals will become your motivation to work, and help give you that extra burst of energy you might need to get over the hump. When setting goals though be realistic and make your goals something you know you can accomplish with a little hard work.

Five

Finally the last key to your success is marketing. A monkey can open up a business, but if you cannot market online or offline your business wont see the light of day every again. You must test, test, and test over and over. The best way to find out how to market is reading and educating your self.

These are the five important things you should first plan out when starting up a home based business, or any other type of business you might plan to get into. Without these you will find it hard to become that handful of people that succeed.

When Software Outsourcing is not a Great Plan

Description:

One of the primary advantages of software outsourcing is a cost reduction. In many cases software outsourcing results in reduced labor costs because costs such as social security are too much.

Content:

Edward M. Brancheau

"Outsourcing and globalization of manufacturing allows companies to reduce costs, benefits consumers with lower cost goods and services, causes economic expansion that reduces unemployment, and increases productivity and job creation."
~~ Larry Elder -- "The Larry Elder Show"

When Outsourcing Is Not a Great Plan

Outsourcing can definitely be profitable for a great deal of reasons. Numerous companies enjoy advantages such as lower labor expenses, bigger workforces, access to industry experts and extraordinary flexibility because of outsourcing. At any rate, in spite of the glaring advantages to outsourcing there are a few situations when outsourcing is not a great plan. Though there a number of scenarios where outsourcing is a sensible business opportunity there are other scenarios where outsourcing is not the best idea. In these situations it is best to control the job in-house rather than attempting to force an outsourcing situation to work out.

When Outsourcing Is Too Expensive

One of the main advantages of outsourcing is lower expenses. In a great number of cases outsourcing results in lower labor expenses because expenses such as social security, health care and workers' comp are eliminated. In addition, the increased proficiency resulting when tasks are outsourced to industry experts can also result in cost trimming.

In spite of these numerous opportunities for expense reductions, there are many situations where outsourcing might actually be the more costly alternative and it may also lead to a monetary loss instead of a gain. This may also include a situation where the expense of outsourcing to a tremendously specialized freelancer exceeds the budget for the project. Fees for freelancers with immensely specialized degrees or areas of knowledge are frequently quite costly. An additional possible instacne is one where discovering an freelance worker experienced enough to finish certain tasks would be too costly of a procedure.

"The other part of outsourcing is this: it simply says where the work can be done outside better than it can be done inside, we should do it."
~~ Alphonso Jackson -- Secretary of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development

When Outsourcing Causes You to Lose Command

Even when tasks or projects are outsourced the business accountable for the work likes to continue to handle the job and keep close tabs on the progression of tasks. It is extremely important for the business to proceed to control the job even after it has been outsourced because they are the ones who are ultimately accountable for the successful fulfilment of the work. Whenever an freelance worker or business wants to deny the company access to project files or documents, outsourcing is a bad plan. The business who has the vested concern in the result of the project should at no time be excluded from participating in making decisions concerning the project.

Prior to outsourcing a job or task care ought to be taken to lay out criteria for the managing of the project. Depending on the length and complexity of the job it may also be smart to schedule regular meetings to supply updates on the progression of the job. During this period the contractor ought to supply the employer with all information needed to assess the progression of the job and affirm it is still on track for completion by the specific deadline.

When Outsourcing is Not Permitted

Occasionally outsourcing is not a great plan merely because it is not permitted by contract requirements. A few project contracts may possess stipulations stating the labor cannot be outsourced to an freelance worker or to another business. Inserting such a clause into a contract agreement is well within the rights of the customers. When they employ a specific business to finish a task or project, they expect all work related to the task or project to be completed by members of that business unless they stated otherwise when negotiating the agreement. Breaching the agreement documents in this circumstance is not a great idea. The business could be penalized by the customer. Penalties may include withholding payment or refusing to grant future projects or tasks to the business.

How to Earn $3000 or more as Home-Based Child Care Provider

Description:

There is huge amount of money in this industry to be made by children lovers. It is not uncommon that home Child Care Provider to make $40,000 or more a year from the comfort of their home. Learn how to Earn.

Content:

The demand for Child Care Providers is on the increase. This is expected to continue. There is no better time than now for anyone with a desire to make money in this industry. There are several reasons the experts believe are responsible for this increase. To mention a few; the parents of these children had been forced to work outside the home as a result of the current economy. Most families are tending towards two income earners and as a result, they need a Child Care Provider to care for their kids. Unfortunately, the high increase in divorce rate is creating a situation whereby single parents (single mom / single dad) need a Child Care Provider while they are out at work. Some stay at home moms want their kids to attend day care for the purpose of playing, learning and socializing with other kids. They want their kids to start creating and nurturing relationships with other kids. There are many more reasons why parents need Child Care Providers like you to care for their children.

Huge Amount of Money To Be Made

There is huge amount of money in this industry to be made by children lovers. It is not uncommon that home Child Care Provider to make $40,000 or more a year from the comfort of their home. In addition to monetary gain, home Child Care Providers enjoy the rare privilege of spending more time with their kids. They watch their own children grow. They enjoy being a part of every stage of their children's life. Everyday would be like friends coming over to play with their own kids. Yet, they make money off this everyday 'friends come over visit'. For those without any kids of their own, what a wonderful way to have children around you to play with, care for and acquire wonderful experiences with raising great kids.

Simple Idea on How To Earn $4000 to $5600 Per Month From Your Home

To earn $3000 or more per month could be simple. Where I live in North America, the government allows a maximum of 8 children at a home day care without the need for government licenses or regulations. Check your government regulations for what applies in your locality. Day care monthly prices in my region could be as high as $500 or more per month per child depending on the age of the child. In bigger cities, I understand prices could sometimes average about $700 or more. In small/medium cities, you can easily average $4000/month (8 kids at $500 each). In bigger cities, you will expect about $5600 per month (8 kids at $700 each). If you desire to earn more money, check your government regulations on how to obtain a permit to increase the number of children in your home day care.

What Is Holding You Back?

Most moms really desire to earn good income from home. Some do wish to quit their jobs and create this kind of income as a child care provider. Some wish to start home day care just for the benefit of enjoying the opportunity of spending more time with their own children. They love to stay at home and raise great kids while earning a nice income. What is holding them back from starting are a couple of reasons. The main reason being the lack of knowledge on how to go about setting up and running their home-based day care with ease and fun.

First and Important Step To Start Earning

The information that will get you started will include how to organize your home to accommodate the children's needs. You will need to know how to plan for the age group of children that you have passion for and would love to really care for. You will need to have fun and educational activities planned for the kids depending on how you choose to run the home care. You will need to know simple, friendly and very affordable ways to attract parents to you as their Child Care Provider. The good news is that you do not necessarily need to re-invent the wheel. Most of the information you need to setup and run a successful home based child care service are readily available.

Sunglass Displays & Sunglass Racks

Description:

To sum up, the act of putting sunglasses on a display is quite simple, yet it should definitely be done with a thoughtful and thorough approach. When you will place your sunglasses in your store, you will understand why the location, the rack and the positioning of those items are very important.

Content:

Why care?
If you wish to sell sunglasses, then it could be as easy as buying Sunglass Racks and letting people decide, but while you're at it you, should make the job even easier to the client. How can it be easier than looking and walking? That is actually the key; you should try to cut down on the amount of looking and walking the customer does.

Where should the sunglass displays go?
Depending on how you actually want to tackle the market, there are two different ways to deal with this issue.

If you place your sunglass racks facing the entry point of your store, then you hope that the customer was searching for sunglasses to begin with. Customers are more conscious of what they buy when entering a store than when they are leaving, with that mind, if you decide to go with this approach, you will attract customers that came to your store for sunglasses (among other things.) I would recommend this method if the prices of your sunglasses are higher than normal, as you will not attract as many impulsive buyers as the second approach.

The second key position is to place your sunglass display near the cash register. This method allows the customers to browse through your sunglasses while they wait in line; however, this tactic relies heavily on the fact that the customer is an impulsive buyer (he or she was not even thinking about buying a pair of sunglasses in the first place). With this method, you are less likely to sell an expensive pair of sunglass, but you will likely sell more pairs that the average customer will categorize as inexpensive.

What Kind of Sunglass Displays?
This is another issue that seems simple (and actually is) but which shouldn't be neglected. Roaming through stores, we have all seen sunglass racks that are shaped like columns, and with an easy push, will rotate graciously for the consumer. This may sound simplistic, but this technique is quite beneficial. By allowing the rack to rotate, you allow the customer to quickly view different selections without actually asking them to move around. Since your customer is going to try on sunglasses, you might as well allow them to be motionless.

If you positioned your sunglasses near the cash register, then you may want to look at a different approach. In this scenario, we cannot stop the customer from moving, since he or she is most likely standing in line. For this application a waist-level small and very long rack will grab the attention of the customer throughout the time that they wait in line.

For Your Eyes
You should also use the subliminal technique used in grocery stores of showing off your best pairs of sunglasses (whether it be the most expensive one or the cheapest is up to you) on a rack that is at the same level as the customer's eyes. This way, you will be sure that this particular item is the first one seen when the person walks into the store.

Objections Overruled!

Description:

Objections offer valuable insights into clients’ concerns, fears & values. Once you understand these you can tailor your responses accordingly & thus sell more effectively.

Content:

By now you know that objections come in all shapes and sizes. Your challenge: avoid taking them personally, recognize them as part of the sales process, and learn to transform them into opportunities to solidify sales.

Blocked at the Gate: “What Is The Nature of Your Inquiry?”
One common objection: not getting to the economic buyer. Especially when courting corporations there are receptionists, operators, administrative assistants and even voice mail that can screen you out. Many gatekeepers are authorized to say no but not yes. Make them your ally. Use politeness, humor, and creativity to help them look good to decision-makers. You bring solutions to their problems. Enlist gatekeepers’ support. Gather valuable information from them to help you better sell to their bosses!

Competition: “We already have a service”
Often your prospect already has someone handling their transaction needs. Don’t defame them, become defensive or slink away. Probe further with questions: “What aren’t they doing for you at this time?” There may be room for both of you. Ask: “If you could change one thing about your existing relationship with your current provider what would it be?” Look for openings. Get your foot in the door and show the difference you can make.

Price: “We can’t afford you”
Price is a common objection. I’m often told “We can’t afford your services.” I nicely counter with the question: “How can you afford not to hire me?” Once I shift the discussion to the value of the services I am rendering, my price shrinks in their perception. Explore with prospects the cost of their not using your services and products. What does it cost them in lost time, and money left on the table? Put a price tag on their doing nothing. By comparison, your fee’s a bargain!

Timing: "We’re fine for now.”
Some folks just want to sit pat and avoid change, or at least delay it. They eschew opportunities to grow. Nicely ask: “How has that worked for you so far?” Ask them: “Are you aware of your competitor’s recent moves?” Emphasize the advantages you can deliver vis-à-vis their competitors.

The Meta-Issues
Sometimes price, timing and other objections mask the true issues: internal dissention, lack of strategic planning, ignorance of trends, best practices and new technologies. Listen for the message within the objections they profess. Your non-judgmental approach, gentle manner will comfort and reassure them and get your more business.

Make Your Own Top-10 List
List the most anticipated objections and formulate your responses in advance. When they arise, you can calmly deliver your pre-rehearsed answer in a calm, conversational tone, unfazed by their challenge.

Have No Fear!
Don’t fear objections. They offer valuable insights into clients’ concerns, fears and values. Once you understand these you can tailor your responses accordingly and thus sell more effectively. Objection overruled!

Why I Killed My Muse-- And You Should Too

Description:

Content:

Last night, in the dark following midnight I killed my muse (suffocating her quietly with a pillow) and buried her in my back garden. Today I will plant a roses to hide the grave. No one will ever know and I will be free at last of her insidious hold and I will be able to write what I want.

Why did I resort to this deed? After all my muse was lovely and gave me many gifts over the years. She saw me through dark times and helped mark the joyous ones. Many times she inspired me to reach for more and push myself beyond what I thought I could achieve. Knowing all this why would I kill the very source of my inspiration?

Oh, I had my reasons...

It started out quietly. As I would sit at my keyboard or curl up with a notebook, she would perch on my shoulder as was her wont to do. "I don't think you meant to write that sentence," she would whisper in my ear. "That doesn't sound like the best description," she would snipe. "Is that the best you can do?" she would sneer.

I took to sneaking my writing in when I knew she was occupied elsewhere. She never could resist critiquing the writing in the morning paper if it was left spread on the kitchen table. That way I could sometimes write several pages before she began her commentary. "Surely you can find a better way to approach this topic," her mocking voice would interrupt. "That has been so done."

Soon I was spending more time arguing with her, defending my words, than I was writing. Then my production slowed to a crawl as I would overanalyze each word choice and sentence formation before committing it to screen or paper. All that did was give her more time to find fault with the few words I did write.

Despite urgent deadlines and simmering ideas, I started avoiding the computer and all writing materials. I cleaned my house. I read for hours on end. I made plans for a new garden. The need the write built within me but always my muse was watching me with those eyes -- so judgmental, so critical. I would turn away from my office with a sigh and find some other project.

When I could no longer suppress the urge to write I locked her in a closet and had a wonderfully productive morning. I was so happy with my work that I let her out as I went out the door to run some errands. That just made her mean.

She was waiting for me at the door when I came home. Her glasses had slid nearly to the tip of her nose and somehow she'd found a red pencil (I certainly never brought any such thing into the house). I shuddered at the sight of my happy morning's labor marred by vicious slashes of red. The red blurred before my eyes into a crimson haze and then...

Perhaps it is better that you don't know the details. Suffice it to say that I have selected several old-fashioned roses with luscious aroma and delicate coloring. I am sure they will provide both inspiration and comfort.

Despite my late hours and the physical toil involved, this morning I awoke early and have already logged in several hours at the keyboard. My fingers flew across the keys and after completing several long-stagnant projects I outlined notes for some new. Writing is joyful and rewarding again.

I think I might dedicate this next book to the memory of my muse. Perhaps it will serve as a warning to those other muses out there who are on the verge of going over the edge. Perhaps it will inspire those other writers out there who have let their muse stifle their creativity and shove them right into writer's block. Maybe my warning will mean those other muses and their writers will find a way to work things out.

A template is a master copy of a publication used as a starting point to design new documents. A template may be as simple as a blank document in the desired size and orientation needed or as elaborate as a nearly complete design with placeholders for text, fonts, and graphics that need only a small amount of customization of text. Many programs include their own set of templates for a variety of documents such as business cards, brochures or post cards. We also have templates that you can use directly from our site, or you can always design and save your own template.

Templates can save you time in creating a design and they help maintain consistency with future designs. They can also save you money if you have been hiring designers in the past. With templates you can make your own vision into reality. Here are some tips for using and personalizing your templates:

* Pick a template appropriate to the design you want. If you have to make too many alterations then it is not the right template for you.

*

Replace any pre-selected graphics with your own clip art and graphics. Change the size or placement to better fit your own text.
*

Change the font and text formatting according to the tone you would like to set. You may want a more casual or formal font than suggested and you can add embellishments such as caps or bullets.
*

Change the color scheme or layout. Simply changing the colors used in your document can add dramatic effect, or just moving an element or two around can create the perfect layout for your design.
*

Always save your modified or new template. You may need it again in the future or you might just use it as inspiration for new ideas.

Intellectual Property Laws are Becoming Harder to Enforce, and Easier to Avoid

Jan 17th, 2007 -

Bittorrent Tracker ThePirateBay, has recently declared that it will be looking for a new country to operate out of. However, the news here is that ThePirateBay has elected to buy their own country instead of finding one with relaxed copyright laws.

They found SeaLand, a micro-nation who's sovereignty is in dispute, and launched the website BuySealand.com in order to try to raise funds to purchase it to the tune of 8 digits or more (10 million or more). However, the implication of such an action are clear: "We are the Pirate Bay, and we know what we are doing is illegal, so we are buying our own country to define our own laws". This is a far cry from their traditional defense of "We are not doing anything illegal".

The legality debate aside, the fund raising should be an interesting one to watch, with powerful social and ethical consequences if it succeeds.

Consider the implications of ThePirateBay being organically supported by a huge number of Internet users who would rather their money go to the for-profit PirateBay rather than into the hands of the original copyright owners of the video, music, books and software they are ultimately downloading through the PirateBay's service. The irony is that the same wired folks who are donating money, are the first to blow whistles when it comes to any copyright infringement against apple, web developers, and designers. Ethically, it seems Internet users have severe double standards.

My argument here is simple: We are seeing a trend to where intellectual property rights are decreasing in value, and becoming harder to enforce. This is party due to the widespread prevalence of piracy, but also because of the potential ability of services like the PirateBay to thwart governments and define their own laws.

The Teaching Cover Letter: Out Of The Classroom And Into Reality

A teacher has a great job to do: he or she must be mentor and supervisor in the classroom, and counselor outside of it. Such a job requires people skills, passion, enthusiasm, and a lot of patience. Such a job is actually in great demand: there are thousands of schools all over the world with so many students, but with very few good teachers.

If you are looking for a job as a teacher, then you might be preparing your documents right now. Your resume will probably outline all your educational and career achievements, and will show all the awards you received, all the work you had peer-reviewed or published, and all the workshops or seminars you participated in and attended. Your transcript will show all the wonderful grades you got. Your cover letter will act as the complement to both these documents, and showcase your personality.

But wait, you think: can the cover letter be so important? How can one sheet of paper hold so much power? Do prospective employers actually read the cover letter?

Believe it or not, a cover letter is actually the most important part of your job application. Your teaching cover letter can show your passion for teaching, as well as your enthusiasm in dealing with different people. Your resume and transcript can only go so far in providing your prospective employers a glimpse of your personality.

So what goes into the great teaching cover letter? Your cover letter has to grab your reader's attention, and make the attention stay there. There are so many ways by which you can do this - but there are also so many ways by which you can get it wrong. First, you need to use direct, terse language that does not alienate your letter's reader. Stay away from deep English words, long paragraphs, or run-on sentences. Check your grammar: if you are careful about how you write your letters, you can be careful with how you handle your job, and your prospective employers can sense this.

Don't make your letter boring: use language that is conversational and exciting, but be polite and tactful. You want your teaching cover letter to be bold, and to show your passion. You want to be a personality in the classroom, not a cardboard cutout reading lessons to a bunch of sleepy students. Your letter should reflect this desire, so make every word count.

Your teaching cover letter should also be relevant to the school's mission and goals. State your experience as a teacher, and make sure that you align all these experiences with how you want your career to progress, and how this career progression is in line with the school's own aims. Show that you can offer the school something, and that you can make its students better than ever. You have only a few sentences at your disposal, however, so avoid gushing about what you can do and what you want to do.

Lastly, use an active, exciting voice in your letter. State that you are looking forward to being interviewed, and that you anticipate a positive response from your prospective employers. Provide contact information, and make sure that all the information is valid. Don't make any promises that you can't keep: wait for the phone call or email from the school, and respond immediately. If you don't hear from your prospective employers, make a follow-up call. Show persistence and dedication at this stage of the job application, and chances are, you might be hired as a teacher.

Your teaching cover letter should show what kind of a teacher you will be. You have to show personality and be exciting, but you have to be mature and professional at the same time. If you can show your passion and make your teaching cover letter matter, then your teaching career may soon blossom into the kind of career that you really want.

Use These Five Steps To Finding A Better Private Investigation School

Description:

There are some vital things you need to know before joining a private investigation school. Don't miss this eye opening report!

Content:

Becoming a private investigator is an appealing profession for many people today; whether they are currently in the work force and looking for a career change or just starting out in working life. A private investigation school is an option more and more are leaning towards as a way to fast track their learning curve.

Are All Private Investigation Schools Created Equal?

One of the biggest givens in life is to learn from successful people: those who have already blazed a path in their chosen field and private investigators are no different.

When looking for a private investigation school, it's a good idea to concentrate on those run by current or former P.I.'s. Why? Makes sense. Those with years of experience plying their investigative knowledge in the trade are generally best qualified to teach you the skills required to get established and survive in this tough arena.

Just as important is to learn the art of private investigation quickly and not be stuck in a program which runs over a long period of time.

Private Investigation Schools Online

Nowadays, going online for just about anything is the norm rather than the exception. There are some excellent schools and courses online such as The Global School Of Investigation run by "street wise" P.I.'s who have spent a lifetime learning the ins and outs of this business. These courses are generally intense and straight to the point and can give a student an excellent grounding for what's required.

Let's take a look at some of the benefits you need to look for before joining a private investigation school.

1. A course which gets through the "fluff" quickly and teaches you techniques from the word go.

2. A course which offers hands-on training. Less theory and more practical. Techniques you can practice while training.

3. You'll want to cover a variety of topics such as surveillance to interviewing techniques; criminal investigation to computer investigation; background investigation to self-defence along with setting up in business and running a business.

4. A good private investigation school will also show you where and how to find the best jobs. How to aplly for jobs and the right way to prepare.

5. When looking for a school or course online make sure you can communicate with a customer service representative. Having an avenue of communication should be part of the course curriculum for those times you need vital questions answered.

A private investigation school is a step in the right direction however, go in with "eyes wide open" and do some investigative work yourself before deciding on the right option. You should also do a check with the governing business bodies in your state or area for confirmation of legitimacy.

Guide to Making It on the Spa Industry

Just because spas offer its customers full relaxation and respite from the daily stress and hustle and bustle of the metropolis, it doesn't necessarily mean that the people working behind it are on Zen mode 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In fact, managing a spa or taking on a spa career comes with as many guidelines and technicalities as the average Windows operating system. While it may seem odd that we compare something deemed stress-relieving to something a little stress-inducing, this is the reality. A spa is considered a place for rest—but this only applies to the customer. For the people behind it, a spa is busy one-way street.

If you're thinking about entering the spa world and taking on a career as an aesthetician, therapist, manager, or whatever, do not be disheartened just yet. Sure, while it's true that running a spa is quite stressful, it can also be very rewarding.

A Growing Industry

Statistics shows that the job opportunities in the spa industry are among the fastest growing in the world. This is not a surprise especially with the rising population, growing consumer demand for physical excellence and beauty and quadrupling personal incomes all over the world. This is what globalization has done to most industries and, luckily, the spa world is among those that are likely to reap the greatest benefits.

It is for this reason that a lot of people are entering training programs to become manicurists, massage therapists, cosmetologists, barbers, electrologist, skin care specialists, and the like. Schools offering such courses are popping up everywhere, each offering a distinct style that when put together have only one thing in mind, that is, customer satisfaction. A spa's greatest goal is to make each one of its clients happy when they step out. A spa is every distressed urban jungle hound's wonderland and nirvana.

Easing the Worry Out

As mentioned, a spa's goal is provide pampering. Thus, if you are seeking a career in this industry, you must also have this goal in mind. Sure, while the job opportunities in this industry is growing at an alarming rate, you must also know what you're getting into and, at least, enjoy what you're doing. For how can you ensure complete customer satisfaction when you yourself are not having fun in the process?

You see, working in a spa entails a job that entails touch and personal interaction with the client. Hence, a sunny or at least serene disposition is required of people who hold spa-related jobs. When customers go to a spa, they expect to be treated like royalty and positive energy. That's why even if you've had a huge fight with your significant other right before you went to work, this should never reflect on how you perform your job.

Indeed, it is probably safe to say that spa employees are the best actors in the business industry, next to sales people, because their work requires them to temper their feelings and set aside their personal lives while they're doing their jobs. As an effective spa therapist, you must be able to ward off the negative and wear the positive while you're on your shift. This is quite challenging. However, if you do want to succeed and thrive in this industry, you should be prepared to do this once in a while. Otherwise, don't have this job at all.

Service is Key

If you love what you're doing, it will be easier for you to become good at it when the time comes. While money is key motivator to performing well, it should not be the only reason why you'd want to work in a spa. You can channel all your negative energy into taking additional spa-related courses and, instead, challenging this negativity by trying to advance in the field. For instance, if you're the resident hairdresser, you might want to vent your frustration by enrolling in advanced hairstyling classes to further your career.

The key is to channel all your doubts into something that's productive and constructive, and toward something that would help you grow further in your chosen field. This is not exclusive to spa careers, though, as you should practice this with any situation in your life.

The sooner you decide that you want a career in the spa industry, the better, because you will get an early headstart in terms of training and getting the right mindset. Just because working in a spa entails working in a quiet environment that doesn't seem to have known conflict during its lifetime, it doesn't mean you have to scrimp on the preparations. Again, because the spa industry is turning global faster than you can say, well, 'global', you must learn to ride with the times and get all the training you can get your hands on.

Of course, as with any career, you should know what you're getting into before you 'decide' that a certain job is right for you. A spa career is no walk in the park. It will stress you out. However, if you find that this is your calling, that you are meant to be in the service industry, then you should exercise all means possible to get it done and done well.

If you need more advice on whether a spa career is perfect for you, assess your personality first or seek the advice of a career counsellor. You never know what's best unless you take an outside looking in approach to your career options. Or you could go visit a nearby spa and observe how its staff and crew operate, and note how well they keep their composures and energy despite the entire day's backbreaking work load. After that, if you still think that you're fit for the job, then by all means, go for it. Good luck!

Deal With Time Wasters for Effective Time Management

Description:

Once you deal with the two main categories of time wasters, the internal and the external, you can improve your productivity and work more efficiently. Read on to discover how to deal with them.

These are the things that you do yourself to waste time and are the easiest to control. The second category are the external time wasters. These are the things other people do to waste your time. This can be more diffucult to control, though it can be controlled with a little bit of effort and ingenuity.

Let's look at the self generated internal time wasters and some possible solutions:

1) The lack of planning and priorities. Many people never get anything accomplished because they don't know where to begin or how to proceed once started. It is important that you keep a weekly schedule. List your priorities in order of importance. If needed, discuss the priorities with your boss or coworkers. Make a schedule that starts at the beginning of each week and incorporates all of your priorities into the schedule with goals for completion dates. List every hour and what you should be working on for that hour. Schedule tight so there is not a lot of time in between projects. Too much time between projects is wasted time.

2) Disorganization. Disorganized people spend way too much time looking for lost items. Keep your office neatly organized and free of clutter. If you can't do this yourself, recruit a friend or hire someone to help you.

3) Procrastination. This is a big time waster. Set a deadline for those projects that you don't want to do. Plan a reward for yourself when finished. Work on the project in small chunks until completed. Sometimes it helps to work on it first thing in the morning to get it out of the way.

The second category of time wasters is the external time wasters. These are not as easy to control since they involve external factors. Here are some solutions to help control or at the very least, keep them to a minimum:

1) Visitors. If you get a lot of visitors dropping to your work area this could be a huge time waster for you. The solution is to move your desk so that your back is to the door. This will make you seem less approachable. When someone stops in to talk, stand up. This will send the message that you don't have time to chat. If all else fails be honest. Tell them thanks for dropping by, but tactfully let them know that you need to get back to work.

2) Telephone calls. Screen your calls. Let the voice mail take your calls during the day when you are busy. Schedule time during each day when you will return the calls and let your clients know when that time will be. Keep your answers short and to the point and end the conversation politely when it has achieved it's purpose. With a little practice you can be personable and still keep the conversation short.

3) Mail. It can flood your desk and take it over before you it. Schedule time each day to go through your mail. Make it a rule to handle each piece of mail only once. Throw out the junk mail immediately, file" information only" mail in a file box to be read later and respond to the others by telephone or fax. Faxing a response is a great idea because the response is immediate and takes very little time.

4) Email. Clean out your email box daily and don't use your business email address for personal use.

Using these solutions, your productivity will increase and your stress level on the job will decrease. The best part is, you can say goodbye to the time bandits forever!asters. Work Abroad In Japan: Working At An Eikaiwa

If you do a search on all the major eikaiwa - chain English cram-school companies, you'll find their websites, and then you'll find endless websites and forums totally SLAMMING them. It seems like every English teacher in Japan hates those guys. But should you pay attention?

Actually, take everything you read with a grain of salt. That goes for the websites, but also the haters too. I worked for an eikaiwa a long time ago, and I have some friends who work for them. I want to give you a little run down, considering the pros and cons, which I hope will help you make an informed decision.

I worked for one of the more famous one - which I won't name here. (But it shares the same name as a famous model of Chevy car from the 70's). I can't totally hate them, because they hired me and set me up in Japan. I also got paid pretty well, and got lots of experience teaching in a short period of time, much more experience than if I'd gotten an education degree back in the States. So, if you look at it from a totally utilitarian standpoint, those big eikaiwas will get you here and get you set up. When people back home say they want to teach in Japan, I always say it's a good way to get over here.

Basically, at an eikaiwa, you will teach 6-8 lessons a day (depending on the company). You will have tiny 10-15 minute breaks between lessons, but you have to use that time to write evaluations and get the next lessons ready. I don't know about other schools, but mine had it streamlined so that you didn't really have to do much evaluation or preparation. The hours are usually afternoon or evening, which is great if you're a night person.

Eight lessons a day is ridiculous, but you get used to it. It's amazing how quickly you get used to it. If I had to go and do eight lessons tomorrow, I probably couldn't do it, but when I was working for that cram-school I never even felt it.

It's tough, but on the positive side, you get tons of teaching experience. Not only do you learn about students, you also learn what kinds of activities and lessons work and don't work. I use that knowledge all the time to this day.

Now that I teach on my own and prepare all my own lessons and do all my own scheduling, I kind of appreciate that the school I worked for did all that for me. At those big companies, you just walk in, do your lessons, and walk out. You never have to take anything home with you, or worry about what you're going to teach the next day.

On the down side, these schools often use lousy teaching materials and have little concern for students' progress. In spite of that, if you are a good teacher, you can make the lessons valuable for the students. You can still care about students, even if the company doesn't.

At the end of the day, these companies are interested in MAKING MONEY, and little else. If you really want to be a teacher, this can be depressing. The lessons, the teachers, the students, the staff, are all interchangeable. This is why it's called "fast food English." For me, eventually this became a really negative environment and that's one of the reasons why I finally left.
